I finished this book last night. It was quick, it was fast-paced. This novel did not take me at all long to finish reading, which is good, because if it was longer I would have quite possibly not finished it at all.

I honestly don't know what to say about this book. I am in two minds at the moment about it. There were elements about it that I loved; the mysterious photos for example. And there were things that I despised; the lame ending and the awfully depressing writing.

Evan is possibly one of the most depressing character that I've read about. He was a prime reason that I never usually read these sorts of realistic teen-fiction novels. I'm not sure why I decided to pick this on up - the intriguing cover might have had something to do with it.

The eding was also kina lame, as well. I was expecting a twist, a shock, something that made me go, "Wow! I didn't see that one coming!" but unfortunately, this book didn't do that for me.

In the end, I made the choice of giving this two stars. One for the photographs, half a star for the writing, and another half a star for the idea behind the story.

One in June -- the other in August. To be quite honest, I can't wait! For anyone who doesn't know what Camp NaNoWriMo, or what NaNoWriMo is, it's basically a month where you write a whole novel -- or 50, 000 words. NaNoWriMo, originally held in November stands for: National Novel Writing Month. I won't go into too much detail, but you can read more about the event/s here and here!

I attempted it last last year ( Both Camp NaNoWriMo & NaNoWriMo) and failed. I blame school, ha ha. But this year -- I'm determined to actually give it a proper shot and not give up if I get behind. So far, I'm still deciding between two plots -- and I really hope that during the month that I'll actually be able to stick to it.

So, what do you think? Are you participation? Feel free to follow me on Twitter (@Kara_writes15) to probably see updates during the month of June.

It's only nine days away, so get ready everyone!

On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Renée Winters was still an ordinary girl. She spent her summers at the beach, had the perfect best friend, and had just started dating the cutest guy at school. No one she'd ever known had died. But all that changes when she finds her parents dead in the Redwood Forest, in what appears to be a strange double murder.

After the funeral Renée’s wealthy grandfather sends her to Gottfried Academy, a remote and mysterious boarding school in Maine, where she finds herself studying subjects like Philosophy, Latin, and the “Crude Sciences.”

It’s there that she meets Dante Berlin, a handsome and elusive boy to whom she feels inexplicably drawn. As they grow closer, unexplainable things begin to happen, but Renée can’t stop herself from falling in love. It’s only when she discovers a dark tragedy in Gottfried’s past that she begins to wonder if the Academy is everything it seems.

Little does she know, Dante is the one hiding a dangerous secret, one that has him fearing for her life.
For some reason, I actually did like the plot, although I thought that it was undeveloped. The characters, however, I thought were not very good.
Raven: The main character of the novel was extremely annoying. I'm not quite sure what it was about her-- but I really disliked her.

Alexander: The love interest. He was pretty bland, but I did like him more than I liked Raven.

However, they were dropping the 'love' word when they hardly knew each other. But this? Nope, no way. And that annoyed me a lot.
I finished my third novel, and I'll set it aside for editing to do later. (:

It finished at 82, 512 words. It's pretty rough, but at least that's the first draft is done. Yes, I realise that it's about vampires, but I *tried* to make them at least a little bit unique. The key word there being 'tried'.

Any feedback is welcome!
So, yeah . . . I'll blog about something soon. Yeah.

Um.

It's odd.

Not much I can 'review', to be honest.

I actually really enjoyed the first book-- it was a good insight to the story and an introduction to the characters. But this one . . . I'll be honest, here-- I skimmed throughout most of the story and not found myself missing out on much. Dana annoys me: She's snarky, sure, but I found that I couldn't exactly relate to her at all.

The plot was odd, I thought. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Also, the writing was very, very basic. Simple. Nothing special. That was something that I noticed during the first one, but for some reason, I thought that the authors writing would . . . I don't know, pick up?

Will I read the next book? I think that I will, but I know now not to expect anything special. You never know, it might surprise me.Karahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17364556197808721196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1965410839840114714.post-12084321970853504162012-03-16T00:27:00.008-07:002012-03-18T21:39:50.615-07:00Book review: Glimmerglass by Jenna Black

I gave this book 2.5 stars out of 5.

Why?

I didn't love it, I didn't hate it.

It was alright-- but hey, don't get me wrong-- it was enjoyable, but it didn't have that 'wow' factor that I was looking for.

The thing that really bothered me so much about this novel was the main character. I'm not sure what it is with main characters, but, sure, Dana had snark-- but that was about it that I actually liked about her.

I didn't really much like Ethan, either. He was alright at the beginning, but throughout the novel, he began to bug me.

I haven't really got anything to say about this book although it was enjoyable to read that that I will read the next one.Karahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17364556197808721196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1965410839840114714.post-35945179587104433152012-03-08T01:42:00.000-08:002012-03-08T01:42:12.442-08:00Book review: A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn DaviesI think it's safe to say that I was disappointed by this book. Angels are cool and all, but two new "hot" guys starting in a new school? Can't we be a LITTLE more creative here? Can't the author have slipped them in another way? WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE SCHOOL? I get it, school is a big part of a teenagers life (trust me, I know) but it's just too over-used now. Also, the fact that Asher watches Skye in her sleep. It's creepy, it's disturbing, and I don't like it. It makes such a connection with Twilight, don't you think. As soon as someone even mentions that, my mind instantly goes to Twilight. Don't get me wrong, I love Twilight and I think that they are amazing books, but I don't really need to read about guys watching girls in their sleep in every YA paranormal book. It's not exactly necessary, and doesn't drive the plot in any way. That's another thing: In about 80% of the book, nothing really happened. I mean -- stuff happened, but pointless boring stuff that just made me feeling like throwing the book across the room. (I actually did, in the end I was so pissed off.) The ending felt rushed, whilst a lot of the other parts of the book dragged slowly along.

- Characters: Devin and Asher, good boy bad boy. It kind of reminded me of Luc and Gabe (Personal Demons) except not as good. Skye. Skye was alright. I didn’t hate her, but neither could I relate to her or like her. The Aunt. (Forgot her name.) I hate it how parents (or carers, Skye’s parents are dead -- died in a car-crash (why is it always a car-crash?)) are never actually around in this. Don’t they take an interest in her life? I get that she has a demanding job or whatever, but it’s just an excuse that the author has used to not bothering to actually figure out what to do with her.

- Setting: Yeah, cold snowy place. I mean, come on, 50,000 words in one month. ONE MONTH. 30 days to write a novel.

Ahh. Well, wish me luck. What I've decided to do is to create a new post for every day of NaNoWriMo, so you guys can check up on how I'm going. I honestly don't know how I'm going to do--but this time, I'm pretty determined to actually do it. And finish it. And win it.

I utterly failed at Camp NaNoWriMo, mainly becasue I pansted it all (which I'm probably going to do again, but with MORE of an idea). And I'll post that idea on here, with a synopsis, and possible some exerpts as time goes on, just to see how it's going.

Bye-bye for now, (going to do some more editing/writing) and hopefully I'll post within the next week or so... and if not, then on the 1st of November. :)Karahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17364556197808721196noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1965410839840114714.post-83971301101467182192011-09-03T19:10:00.000-07:002011-09-03T19:10:56.429-07:00I officially have four followers!Oooh, look! Four followers! Thanks guys, and girls, you're awesome. 'nuff said.

Last post, (I think) I said that I would be blogging more often... well, uhh, that was quite some time ago, wasn't it? heehee, there are several reasons for this. For one, I forgot my password. Yeah, I know--stupid but I did. And then I kind of forgot about blogging for a few weeks, but... I've remembered my password so it's all good now.

But I've also been sick for quite some time, and I didn't particularly feel like blogging. Oh my gosh, I am s sick of waiting for doctors and sitting on plush seats and chairs, constantly going up to the desk and asking where I am in line.

Not much has really happened since then, except that I epically-failed Campnanwrimo in August (I blame it to my sickness). But let’s talk about writing. Because that's what this blog is for, right? That and, I reckon it's a very good place to complain about things.

Lately, I've been writing a lot of Enchanted. I'm not sure why, but I've had this compulsive urge to write it. I think that it may have something to do with the fact that I basically have no idea where I'm going with it--and to me, that’s exciting. I do have the basic plot lined out somewhere inside my head, but besides from that, it's open to my imagination. Which I like. See, compared to some of my other stories, I know exactly what is going to happen, almost every event. I find that slightly boring for me, and I loose interest in the story. But not the characters, definitely not the characters.

I think that's about it for now, but I PINKY PROMISE that I'll blog soon. Hopefully, I don't forget my password again. If you want to check out any of my stories, I've decided that I'm going to add a link to the "My Writing" tab for this blog. Enjoy!
But moving past that, I do have some news to day. First of all, http://www.campnanowrimo.org/ for July was a complete and utter fail of a mess--reaching only about 22, 000 of the required 50,000 words. But I do have to say, I was busy. This month however I've promised myself that I AM GOING TO DO IT, and by that I mean try to keep up with the daily quota of words. So far, I'm a bit behind (5,672/8,065) for today but thank-god it's friday so I will have lots of time to (hopefully) catch up and possibly even run ahead a bit. (I wish.)

In other news, I've finished Cursed. (woohoo!) It's actually a bit shorter than the last one that I wrote only barely scraping over 46,000 but like they say: quality over quantity or whatever. So now is going to be your last chance to read it before I possibly take it down for editing and tweaking. You can either read it on GoodReads or Wattpad, the choice is yours but I'm going to give you the GoodReads link becuase I'm too lazy to open another window to find the link. >.< http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/266593-cursed-finished. The sequel, Stolen will also be uploaded very soon.

I haven't got much else to say at the moment, except that I'll try and blog soon again! Oh, and THANK-YOU VERY MUCH for my one follower--you're awesome.
Karahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17364556197808721196noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1965410839840114714.post-79214860082676949132011-07-25T00:46:00.000-07:002011-07-25T00:52:56.606-07:00Hello!<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Yes, hello everyone. Or everyone that is actually reading this. ^_^
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">So. I'm sure by just reading the title of my blog, you can tell what it's gonna be all about.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Yes. And I should probably also tell you why I decided to call this blog, "One Thousand Words." There are a couple of reasons, actually.
a) I'm not a very orignal person, and that was the first thing that came into my head and I was too lazy to come up with anything else. And,
b) When I write, I try to wrire at least 1000 words a day--although as I normally reach that limt, there ARE day where I have a, "cbf, I'll do it later" sort of attitude. I usually write more on weekends, however when i have more time.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Writing. And I'm sure I'll mention books in here too, books I either love or hate.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">And if you don't like reading? Or writing?
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Well, there's a simple solution to that problem. Do you see that small red box with a white cross in it that's in the upper right hand corner? Click on that, and your problems solved!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">For all of those who do like reading and writing, well, thank-you. Because a) you have a good sense of hobbies, and b) for reading my awesomely-epic-blog.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I think I should tell you a bit more about myself, eh? I think that you've grasped the fact that I'm a bookworm, and a writer. Yay, awesome combination, don't you think?
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Well, I did, anyway. I'm 14 years old and my name is Kara and......that's all I'm probably going to tell you, so..yeah.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Lets start with reading. Simply put, I could not live without books, or writing for another matter-- but I'll get to that later. I basically read what every other teenager girl reads nowdays-- romace books. yay for that. :) Oh, and paranormal books too, lets not forget that, shall we?
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Anyways, on to writing. I've always written stories as a kid-- you know, just kiddy stories, about faires and stuff like that. I also think one time I wrote a story about snowmen...
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">quite embarassing when I look back on it. But I've since I was about...thirteen(?) I've been writing somewhat seriously--as in actually trying to start and finish a novel. So far I have finished one novel and I am currently re-writing it becuse I am a perfectionist when it comes to writing. But apart from that, I'm writing about nine different stories-- some which I only have vauge ideas for so far.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">And if you want yo check out stuff I've written? Click on the "Wattpad widget" that took me about an hour to figure out how to add. Thats all for now!Karahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17364556197808721196noreply@blogger.com0
